Kaufman High School
KHS Tennis!
On October 5, Kaufman held a tennis tournament inviting Forney, Frisco, Lone Star, Greenville, Mesquite-Poteet, Van, and Wills Point. The tournament lasted all day and by the end of the day they had sent most of them packing, finishing first place in three of the five categories. As a team Kaufman finished first place coming out with 50 points against their closest competition, Van who got 37 points.
“We did very well today and have had a wonderful fall season. We dedicated this tournament and all of our victories to Alex Tedesco-she was very much on our minds.” –Brenda Paine. Kaufman senior Alexandra Tedesco had played tennis with the Kaufman team. She lost her life October 30, 2010 in a car accident. Her siblings were at the tournament, both have also played for Coach Paine and Kaufman in the past.
The winners of first place in mixed doubles were the pair of Costello and Dominguez; the boys double team of Hernandez and Vincik; and the girl’s single player Julia Lovegren. The girl’s double team of Scales and Stevens placed second in their event. The doubles events were held at Kaufman High School but in order to fit in all of the matches the singles events were held at Forney High School. “We tried one year to have it all here but it just lasted all night. In the spring we will have to use just about every available court around in order to host the district championships.” –Brenda Paine
The Kaufman Tennis team will take a break, at least from formal competition, and come back in the spring. Keep up the hard work tennis!
